crazy week || Back to top

Many things had happened for the past few days. Food poisoning was painful, it disabled my brother and i from playing basketball for 2 days. Had fever, some funny feeling in my stomach, and i felt super cold when the whether was warm. Thank God that was kind of over by about 10pm on Tuesday. Next day was the day for complete recuperation, and to gain back my strength and feel for the ball.

Wei xiang, remus, my brother and me played the All-Star game the following day. Obviously, its not some NBA All-Star game. It's only Singapore. Anyways, we were playing for the west team which consisted of only 4 hwa chong players (age: 15), Weng xiang (17) and number 8 of new town sec (16), 2 AES players (16) and us. Other teams had tall and older players. However, we had fun playing in that All-Star event. It was thrilling to play with the west team especially with weng xiang. Generally, the All-star event made me exposed to people who may be better and also to gain experience, after all, im just a rookie. LOL.

Training today was slightly lighter, but after that we had a game against the overseas family school under 19. They had players with the height of 197cm i guess (or even taller). We were actually leading by 10 points or so but during the last few quarters, we kind of lost many points to them and ended up losing by 1 point. During the 3rd quarter when i was subbed in for a while, i suffered cramps on my quads and couldn't play anymore. My brother's right thigh was knee-ed by some guy during the All-star game and could not play today. Few others also didn't come if not, i think we could have beat them. i guess todays game was more of fun than to compete competitively.

Intensity || Back to top

Its the Start of the March holidays! Aren't you happy, people? What a nice plan, and now, training goes crazy! Games are going to resume right after the march holidays and they are gonna be so exciting. Our group is made up of Cat high, maris stella, manjusri and us. Obviously, training has to be intensed.

Trainings for this week had increased to 5 times. After today's training, I felt like i had fallen in love with basketball again. Programs that coach had planned for us just motivates me to do more of them.

I'm gonna be real busy this week with tuitions and trainings, homeworks, Catching up in my studies, etc. There are just so many things to do in Singapore, nonetheless, i surrender all these unto God that everything will be smooth sail...

God bless your week.

River valley high vs Unity sec || Back to top

2 days ago we had a good game against River valley. They had a 'giant center' from china. 1.90cm+? In Singapore, you are considered very tall. But before telling you about the game, let me give you a brief intro about how i know the coach and the team.

Before the big guy came into the team in 2007, my sis's friend who was once from RV and in hwa chong JC playing for the school team that year, recommended my bro and i to train with the players of Hong Kah North club. The coach was RV's coach. So my bro and i trained with the JC and sec people.

Back to my storytelling... On that day, my team did our warm ups, stretches and team talk. During the first quarter, we didn't play well. totally didn't. we were losing by 6 points! however, as we played, we started to get more and more focused and into the game. Jump shots, power shots, drive-ins, and foul-ins made us lead by a quite a lot. That wasn't enough. we continued to persevere. i had some good eye contact with jinyi (point guard) and he made few beautiful passes to me when i created space in the 'red box' which was converted to a power shot. Few of them were foul-ins.

One funny, yet, unfortunate thing happened to me on the court. i was trying to help i think my brother to defend number 15, the giant and accidentally collided with Gaddiel. His teeth ' sank into my skin'. Just kiddin, i had small cut near my eye by Gad's teeth. i was bleeding but i was unconscious about it. So i stopped playing. (i hope my looks don't change)

The score was about 90+ to 50+. My coach said that he did not expect us to win so much. he expected 30 and we did about 40 points. How cool is that. Anyways, we played very well on that day, apart from the first quarter and i hope that this spirit will not end especially in the finals on tuesday at jurong east when it is going to be so pressurizing. Man i just pray that i can control my nervousness on that day.

Unity challenges Jurong || Back to top

2007 was the year I saw Unity got beaten by jurong secondary during the west zone finals. 25th Feb 2009 was the day we took them down.

After the game against New town, our team morale increased greatly. We were preparing ourselves to win the game on wednesday, and we did with the score of 46- 43 points. It was a very anxious game. As some of us panicked, many power shots were missed. However, i felt that my rebounds had improved. if you want to know more about the game, visit http://redsports.sg/2009/02/28/unity-jurong-basketball-3/

After the loss against bukit panjang, we had learnt a lot, and after the win against newtown and jurong in just 2 matches, i felt that team Unity had changed a lot. We became less complacent and learnt to humble ourselves. We had a lot of team talks and reflections on what were the wrongs we did which made us lose. This bonded our team strongly. After all these, we didn't made the same mistakes again, eg. lousy warm ups, and no team talks before and after every game.

Players from our team also changed their attitude and character. They stopped exclaiming vulgarities and hardly showed any expression of their anger on court towards the referees. They also stopped using violence on court and remiained calm when others used dirty methods against them. Our basketball teacher-in-charge also said our coach had changed from a easily frustrated person into a calm and understanding coach, and a coach who completey commits himself to our team.

i hope all these will continue to be maintained in the team or maybe even become better.

Next match will be the semi finals against river valley on Tuesday 3rd march. I'm gonna give my all!
