Once Beaten, Twice Shy || Back to top

27th April 2010.

What a joyous occasion to celebrate! The once normal feathered, dull, nearly outstanding eagle finally soared high clothed in Golden robe, crowned in triumph, claiming the trophy of glory.

In a lifetime, one thing that can make a person break a cold sweat, with his legs shivering and heart pumping uncontrollably is when one steps into the entrance of a throng, feeling the cold breeze of the air-con, trying not to get distracted by the cheers or jeers, and avoiding any eye contact with the spectators. The finale reminds every athlete that it is no longer just about skills or physical capabilities, but most importantly about the mental capacity.

After so much, I guess most of my teammates had overcame that personal Everest. During the game against North Vista secondary, I felt less stressed, more focused than what I used to feel. Though a bit of anxiety and few moment of rashness, I managed to accomplish some of my personal targets like rebounding and defense. Thanks to all basketball teachers in-charge for giving so much encouragement and moral support.

Besides playing on court, like the spectators, I too witnessed exciting plays and was thrilled and entertained while I sat on the bench cheering for my teammates. Every time when our morale was a little down, there would always be someone scoring the crucial ball, continuously bringing the atmosphere back to the peak of the hype. Though our opponents shot several three points, my team still managed to get them back to maintain the comfortable margin of about 10 points.

Team Unity played our best and showed a difference from other games- we had more teamwork. I believe that North vista had also fought the maximum they could but unfortunately for them, and fortunately for us, the game was sealed with the score of 70 to 52.

Most importantly, I want to thank God for the win and also allowing me to be part of this team. I was not wrong to trust in him. For 3 years, I wouldn't have joined this team, or this team would not had been formed for nothing, but it is through God that we made it to the championship title.

For now, I'm trusting in Him for the path i will take in future. The season has come to a closure and it's all about study now! :D

Jeremiah 29: 11 - "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
